The Staff of the Columbia-Montour Home Health Service/Nurse Family Partnership poses in front of the Central Court Apartments in Bloomsburg. The United Way of Columbia County recently awarded $1,500 from the Community Fund to assist in the furnishing of these apartments, which will house first-time mothers and their new born babies. Visiting nurses and mentors will teach the new mothers about pregnancy health and child development. UNITED WAY SEEKS FUNDING PROPOSALS BLOOMSBURG – The United Way of Columbia County is now accepting proposals to fund projects that show cooperation among community organizations. The funding comes from the United Way’s Community Fund. A letter outlining the project should be sent to the United Way. If the Community Fund Committee believes a project is worthy of more consideration, a full application will be forwarded to the organization seeking funds. The application asks for a detailed description of the program and a budget showing contributions from community partners. Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2008 at five o’clock PM. Grants will be awarded by the United Way Board at its meeting in late April, and applicants will be notified by May 15, 2008. Recent award recipients include: 2007 – Special Olympics- Bocce ball courts, $2000; Columbia Montour Home Health Services/Nurse Family Partnership, $1500; Bloomsburg Kiwanis Club, Kiwanis Summer Playground at Memorial Elementary School, $1000; Community Friendship Meal at Wesley United Methodist Church , $500. 2006 – Bethesda Day Treatment, Center, $1000; Columbia-Montour Home Hospice, $1000; The Children’s Museum, $500; The Forum for Pennsylvania’s Heartland – “Make-A-Difference 2006,” $1000.
